Connect your Canon camera via Personal Hotspot

These cameras use the Wireless Features menu. Select “Switch network” to leave Camera AP mode and join your iPhone’s hotspot.

Supported models

What you need

  • FrameFast installed on your iPhone
  • A charged camera from the list above
  • File format set to JPEG or RAW + JPEG — FrameFast does not transfer RAW-only files
  • Your iPhone near the camera

    Enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone

    On your iPhone

    1.1 Go to Settings → Personal Hotspot → turn on Allow Others to Join.

    1.2 Note the Wi-Fi Password shown on this screen.

    1.3 Your hotspot name is your iPhone's name (check Settings → General → About → Name).

    Keep the Personal Hotspot screen open while setting up the camera. iOS may disable the hotspot if you navigate away.

    Open the Wi-Fi wizard on the camera

    2.1 MENU → Wireless features → Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connection.

    2.2 Select Remote control (EOS Utility).

    2.3 Select Add a device to connect to.

    The camera shows its own SSID and password (Camera Access Point mode). Do not connect to this.

    Switch to infrastructure mode

    On the camera

    3.1 Select Switch network. This exits Camera Access Point mode and lets the camera scan for existing networks.

    3.2 The camera shows a list of detected networks. Select your iPhone's name from the list.

    3.3 Enter the Wi-Fi password from your iPhone's Personal Hotspot screen. Press OK.

    3.4 For IP address settings, select Auto setting.

    Start pairing on the camera

    The camera connects to your hotspot and shows Start pairing devices. Press OK. The camera waits for FrameFast to connect.

    Open FrameFast and select Canon

    On your iPhone

    5.1 Open FrameFast → Capture tab → tap + → select Canon → select Personal Hotspot.

    5.2 FrameFast scans the hotspot network and finds your camera. Tap to connect.

    Pick an event and upload mode

    On your iPhone

    Select the event you’re shooting for, then choose an upload mode:

    • Real-time upload — photos upload to the cloud as you shoot. Requires internet.
    • Shoot offline — photos are saved locally and uploaded later when you’re back online.

  7. Confirm on the camera

    The camera shows a connection confirmation with the device name. Press OK to connect.

    The screen changes to [Wi-Fi on]. Every photo you take now appears in FrameFast and uploads to your event.

    Because your camera is on your iPhone's hotspot, your iPhone keeps its internet connection — real-time upload works without any extra connectivity setup.

Troubleshooting

iPhone’s hotspot doesn’t appear in the camera’s network list

  • Make sure Allow Others to Join is turned on in Personal Hotspot settings.
  • Keep the Personal Hotspot settings screen open on your iPhone — iOS turns off the hotspot if you navigate away and no devices are connected.
  • Select Refresh on the camera to scan again.
  • Move the camera closer to the iPhone (within 2 meters).

FrameFast can’t find the camera

  • Go to Settings → FrameFast and ensure Local Network is enabled.
  • Make sure the camera is connected to your iPhone's hotspot (the camera shows a Wi-Fi icon), not the camera's own network.

Connection drops

  • Move your iPhone closer to the camera.
  • If the connection drops frequently, try turning off cellular data on the iPhone to reduce hotspot power management.
